New Laser Sintering Powders from ALM

July 2011

RP Support continues to strengthen its range of Laser Sintering materials with the introduction of three new nylon 11 based powders.

Through their established partnership with ALM, RP Support continues to strengthen its comprehensive range of Laser Sintering powders, providing advanced materials that are recyclable, flexible, light weight, filled and unfilled nylons, suitable for a wide range of processing applications.

The new innovative additions to the Laser Sintering range of powders are all commercially available via RP Support.

PA-850 produces parts with a true matt black surface finish, offering excellent fine detail resolution for thin walled parts and text. The material is process friendly and fast requiring only single scanning algorithms. It offers exceptional impact resistance and produces parts comparable to injection moulded PP and ABS. Typical applications include snap fit designs requiring live hinges, electrical connectors and enclosures, automotive under bonnet parts, inlet manifolds and ducting and aircraft forced air cooling ducts.

PA-840-GSL is a light weight composite material with a density of 0.86, producing parts that will literally float on water. This material has superior strength-to-weight properties that surpass any commercially available nylon 11 filled materials. It is ideal for light weight applications requiring a combination of strength and aesthetics. Typical applications include prosthetic body parts, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), automotive headlights and aircraft forced air cooling ducts.

PA803-CF emulates the mechanical properties of carbon fibre. Benefits include good dimensional stability, high tensile modulus and a high heat deflection temperature. The parts are jet black, very stiff and with excellent strength-to-weight characteristics. Typical applications include car brake ducts and air inlet ducts on Formula One cars, wind tunnel models and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
